WHY WE CHOSE OUR NAME

Craobh Chumar an Dá Uisce or "Meeting of the Waters Branch" is a true place in Ireland, where two rivers meet in Avoca, County Wicklow. The national poet of Ireland, Thomas Moore (1779-1852) immortalized this beautiful spot where he penned his beloved Melody "The Meeting of the Waters". The River Avoca has its source, where the Avonbeg and Avonmore flow together.  The similarity to the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers  at our Cohoes Falls provides us with a Sister Valley in Ireland.  So poignant, is the fact that Moore also found comfort, though more restless and wistful, at our own Meeting of the Waters in the Valley of the Hudson.   Lastly, the paradox of our name - one branch from two rivers -  provides a bit of intrigue.  One could speculate that it is a reference to the source of the enigmatic union of Irish and American cultures.
